A mixture of broccoli, radish, red clover and alfalfa. Easy to grow, tasty and good for you. Broccoli shoots contain high levels of sulforaphane, a cellular detoxifier, which can help prevent cancer.

Germination days: 4 to 5
Soaking time: 2-3 hours
Yield: 1 tablespoon of dried seeds yields approx. 1.5 to 2 cups of sprouts.

Storage: Our seeds should germinate well for one year after purchase, if stored in a cool, dry place. If you want to extend the germination time of your seeds, keep them in the refrigerator. If you keep your seeds in the freezer, they will last even longer!
Directions of germination

Soak: put 1-2 tablespoons. seeds in a wide-mouth jar with a germination lid. Add water, stir and drain. Fill the pot with water and soak for 2-3 hours. Drain well and tilt the jar at an angle on a germination or draining grate, or in a draining bowl or grate.

Rinse: twice a day, fill the jar with cold water, shake and drain well.

Enjoy! Ready to eat in 5 days. Refrigerate to store. (Germs keep better when they are dry enough.)

Useful tips:

Some shoots tend to stick together as they grow. To separate, fill the jar with water, remove the sieve and stir gently with a fork when rinsing regularly. Remove the shells if desired. Drain well.
The drier they are, the better the germs keep. Be sure to let the sprouts grow for another half day after the last sorting rinse before storing them in the refrigerator. Optional: Place a folded paper towel on the sprouts in the jar. Cover and refrigerate upside down. This eliminates excess moisture.

If your home is very hot during the summer months, it may be useful to rinse the shoots three times a day with cold water. Stir gently if sticking.

To remove shells and sprouted seeds from leafy shoots, use a special sorting rinse. Remove the sprouts from the jar in a large bowl filled with water. Swish gently to separate the tangled roots. Most shells separate and rise or sink. Discard the shells. Collect the sprouts in the jar with or without a strainer. Put the sprouts back in the jar, drain and continue to germinate for another half day or so.

Some crucifers (cabbage family) such as radish and broccoli develop very fluffy absorbent hairs plus you leave them at rest and these can be confused with mould. You will even see them after a few days of storage in the refrigerator. Agitation and rinsing remove absorbent hair for a period of time.
